Description

This pendant light is a ribbed glass shade in grey, built up in three rounded tiers that step out from a small crown at the top to a full, generous bowl at the base. Fine vertical ribs run down every tier, so the glass catches the light along each line whether the lamp is on or off. The shade is 31.5cm across and 33cm tall, a size that holds its own in a room without crowding it, and the whole light weighs 1.8KG. It is 80% glass, with iron, polyester and PET plastic making up the rest.

Over a dining table or a kitchen table, the wide base sits comfortably above the centre of the surface and draws the eye without blocking the view across it. It is just as at home in a hallway, a landing or a living room that wants a softer, more decorative ceiling light than a plain shade. The cable is 250cm long, which leaves plenty of room to set the drop for a high ceiling or to bring the shade lower over a table. It is rated IP20, so it is for dry rooms only.

The glass is spray coloured, which gives it its even grey tone, and the ribs are formed in the glass itself rather than printed on. It takes an E27 bulb of up to 40W, or up to a 5W LED or a 9W CFL, and the bulb is not included, so pick one up alongside it. The maker's assembly instructions come as a PDF download. Ribbed glass breaks the light into lines, so a clear filament bulb glows through every tier while a frosted one gives a softer, more even light. As a styling note, hang it a little lower than you might over a table, so the tiers sit nearer eye level and the ribs can be seen properly.
