Description

The Svara is a flower stem cut from metal, 54.5cm tall and 24cm across at its widest. A twisted main stem carries four side branches, each one ending in a flower cut from sheet with its petals turned up, and pointed leaves are set along the branches between them. The metal is finished antique brass, warm gold where the light catches a petal and dark in the folds. The foot of the stem finishes in a small loop.

At 54.5cm it stands in a bottle vase or a jug rather than lying flat, and several will go in together. One on its own reads as a single branch; a handful fills a vase. The stem is only 3cm deep, so a single one sits close in against a wall on a shelf.

The stem is iron, cut and shaped by hand and then finished antique brass. Because every flower and every leaf is cut and bent by hand, the set of the petals and the angle of the leaves differ from stem to stem. Svara also runs to a rose stem and a hyacinth stem in the same finish.
