Description
The Knightsbridge OS0026B is a dual-mount mmWave occupancy sensor that can be installed as either a recessed ceiling fitting or a surface-mounted unit using the included surface box. Using millimetre-wave radar technology operating at a shorter wavelength than traditional microwave sensors, it detects both major movements such as walking and subtle activity including typing or breathing. The 93mm diameter black polycarbonate body houses pre-fitted ceiling springs for recess installation and carries an IP20 rating for dry indoor use.
Designed for commercial offices, residential lighting automation, corridor lighting and washroom control, the sensor provides 360° detection when ceiling-mounted or 180° coverage when wall-mounted. Adjustable settings include detection range (25-100% or 1-25m²), time delay (10 seconds, 1, 5 or 15 minutes), and ambient light sensitivity (below 10Lux, 30Lux, 100Lux or daytime operation). Installation height is specified between 2.2-4m from floor level. Multiple units can be wired in parallel where larger coverage areas are needed.
The rated load supports up to 2000W for incandescent lighting or 1000W for LED installations. The polycarbonate construction operates reliably in temperatures from -20°C to +40°C and humidity up to 93%, making it suitable for unheated storage areas, plant rooms and outdoor-facing entrance halls where temperature fluctuation occurs. The 28mm recessed depth fits standard ceiling voids without requiring additional structural work, while the surface box alternative allows retrofit installation onto existing plasterboard or masonry without cutting.

Frequently Asked
What is the difference between mmWave and standard PIR sensors?
mmWave sensors use millimetre-wave radar to detect motion, including subtle movements like typing or breathing. PIR sensors rely on infrared heat signatures and typically only detect larger movements like walking. mmWave offers higher accuracy and fewer false negatives in office and washroom environments.
Can this be used for bathroom lighting control?
The IP20 rating limits it to dry indoor environments only. It is not suitable for bathroom zones where water ingress might occur. For washrooms, mount the sensor outside the wet zones or use a higher IP-rated alternative.
What installation height works best?
The sensor is rated for installation between 2.2m and 4m from floor level. At 2.4m ceiling height in a typical residential room, the sensor provides optimal coverage. At 3-4m commercial ceiling heights, the adjustable range setting compensates for increased distance.
How is the detection range adjusted?
The sensor includes an adjustment dial to set detection range from 25-100%, equivalent to 1-25m² coverage area. This allows the sensor to be tuned to avoid detecting movement in adjacent rooms or corridors through doorways.
