The Sparrowmere XL pendant carries a wide teal fabric shade between two hoops finished in silver leaf, giving you a 700mm diameter ceiling light with five lamps behind the fabric. The drop adjusts between 650mm and 2040mm, so the same fitting can hang low over a table or high in a tall room, and at 5.1kg it needs a ceiling fixing that has been checked rather than a bare plasterboard anchor. Five E27 lamps rated up to 10W each in LED give this pendant light real output, enough to light a dining table on its own, and the whole fitting dims with dimmable lamps and a compatible dimmer.

Size is the point here. A 700mm shade wants a table around 1.2m or wider beneath it, or an island of similar length, and it looks best hung so the lower rim sits roughly 750mm to 850mm above the table top. In a double height hallway or above a stairwell it can drop further and still read in proportion. The open top and bottom mean light washes the ceiling as well as the table, which keeps a dining room from feeling like a pool of light in a dark box. Teal against silver leaf suits contemporary rooms with cool metals and pale walls.

Both hoops are metal with a silver leaf finish, and the shade is fabric over a rigid frame. Shorten the suspension at installation to the drop you want, then dust the metal with a dry soft cloth and brush the fabric gently, keeping liquids away from both. As a Class 1 fitting it needs an earthed supply and a qualified electrician.
