Description
This is our Small Cabin bulkhead, a round porthole light in solid brass left in its raw finish, so what you see is the bare metal itself. A brass cage crosses the front in a grid and guards a domed lens of clear ribbed glass, which spreads the light and softens the look of the lamp behind it. Three lugs around the rim carry the thumb turns that hold the glass and cage in place, and a dark seal sits between the front and the body. It is a compact light, 21cm across and 9cm deep, and weighs 1.42KG. The IP64 rating is the figure that settles where it can go: it is dust-tight and protected from splashing water, so it lives outdoors in British weather.
Its size suits places where a larger light would crowd the wall: beside a front door, in a porch, along a garden wall or on a boathouse. The maker says these bulkheads were designed for outdoor use where an industrial or nautical effect is wanted, and that the maritime influence shows in the range's materials, designs and names. Because the rating is IP64, it can also be considered for a bathroom, where a qualified electrician will confirm the right zone.
Solid brass darkens and mellows outdoors, moving from bright gold towards a deeper brown with time and weather, so the raw finish looks more settled each year. The cable comes in through a gland at the side or the rear, or by conduit, for which an adaptor is sold separately. It takes one E27 (ES) lamp of up to 18W, and the lamp is not included. The maker says the thumb turns are there to make changing the lamp easy. As with any mains light, it is installed by a qualified electrician, and it is worth settling the cable route beforehand, since the conduit adaptor is a separate part.

Frequently Asked
Can this bulkhead light go outdoors?
Yes. It is rated IP64, which means it is dust-tight and protected from splashing water, so it can live outdoors on a wall in British weather all year round.
Can I use it in a bathroom?
Its IP64 rating means it can be considered for a bathroom, and a qualified electrician will confirm the right zone in your room.
What lamp does it take?
It takes one E27 (ES) lamp of up to 18W. The lamp is not included, so choose one when you order the light.
How big is the Small Cabin bulkhead?
It is 21cm across and 9cm deep, and it weighs 1.42KG, so it suits a door surround, a porch or a narrow stretch of wall.
Will the raw brass finish change colour?
Solid brass darkens and mellows outdoors, so the raw finish moves from bright gold towards a deeper, softer tone as it weathers over the years.
Can the cable come in by conduit?
Yes. The cable can enter through a gland at the side or the rear, or by conduit using an adaptor that is sold separately.
