Description
This small round bulkhead light takes its look from a ship's porthole: a solid brass body in an antique brass finish, dark and warm, with brighter brass catching on the raised edges. A cross grille sits over clear ribbed glass whose fine ribs radiate from the centre. It measures 21cm in diameter and 9cm deep, compact enough for a narrow doorway where a larger light would crowd the frame. It is rated IP64, which means dust-tight and protected from splashing water from any direction, so it lives outdoors in British weather all year round.
It belongs beside a front door, in a porch, on a garden wall or on the side of a boathouse, anywhere a plain modern light would look out of place. The maker says the maritime influence of its range shows in the materials, the designs and even the names, and this light wears it openly, with three lugs around the rim and a gridded face that would look at home in a ship's cabin. A pair either side of a front door looks good from the street. The maker also notes that some people fit it in a bathroom, and its IP64 rating allows for that; a qualified electrician will confirm the right zone.
The body is solid brass, and solid brass darkens and mellows outdoors, so the antique finish gains character over the years; the maker describes it as an aged, original-looking finish. The maker also says thumb turns are included, so the bulb can be changed by hand. It takes one E27 (ES) screw lamp of up to 18W, and the lamp is not included, so order one alongside it. The cable enters through a gland at the side or the rear, or by conduit with an adaptor sold separately, which gives some choice over how the cable is run. As with any mains light, have it installed by a qualified electrician.

Frequently Asked
Can this bulkhead light be used outdoors?
Yes. It is rated IP64, so it is dust-tight and protected from splashing water, which suits a wall exposed to British weather all year.
Can I fit it in a bathroom?
Its IP64 rating means it can be considered for a bathroom, and a qualified electrician will confirm the right zone for it.
What bulb does it take?
It takes one E27 (ES) screw lamp of up to 18W. The lamp is not included, so you will need to buy one separately.
How big is it?
It is 21cm in diameter and 9cm deep, and it weighs 1.42KG, so it sits neatly beside a front door or in a porch.
Will the antique brass finish change over time?
Solid brass darkens and mellows outdoors, so expect the finish to deepen with age. The maker describes it as an aged, original-looking finish.
Can the cable run in conduit?
Yes. As well as a cable gland at the side or rear, it can take conduit, though the conduit adaptor is sold separately.
