The Knightsbridge T8158EMHF is a 1527mm single-tube fluorescent emergency batten designed for maintained, non-maintained and switched emergency lighting circuits. It houses high-frequency control gear and a 3-hour battery backup inside a white powder-coated steel enclosure rated to IP20 for dry internal environments. The fitting accepts one 58W T8 fluorescent tube (sold separately) and provides emergency illumination when mains power fails.

Designed for commercial corridors, stairwells, retail back-of-house areas, institutional buildings and industrial warehouses where emergency lighting regulations require backup illumination, the batten mounts directly to ceilings or walls via knock-out fixing points at each end. The high-frequency control gear reduces flicker and hum compared to older magnetic ballast units, while the Class I earthed construction meets UK wiring regulations for metal-bodied emergency fittings.

The 1527mm length and 61mm width give a low-profile installation suited to corridors and walkways with limited ceiling clearance. What's the difference between maintained and non-maintained modes?

Maintained mode keeps the tube lit continuously when mains power is present, switching to battery backup when power fails. Non-maintained mode only illuminates the tube during a power cut, drawing from the battery. Switched mode allows manual override control. The fitting supports all three modes depending on how it's wired during installation.

Does the batten come with a tube?

No. The fitting requires a separate 58W T8 fluorescent tube (1500mm nominal length). Most installations use a 4000K or 6500K tube for commercial emergency lighting, though warm-white tubes are also compatible.

How long does the battery backup last?

The integrated battery provides 3 hours of emergency illumination at full output when fully charged. This meets the standard BS 5266 duration requirement for most non-residential premises. The battery charges automatically while mains power is present.

Can a diffuser be fitted?

Yes. Knightsbridge produces optional clip-on polycarbonate diffusers for this batten series (sold separately).
