Description
The Knightsbridge T5149 is a 5ft single batten fitting designed to house one 49W T5 fluorescent tube (sold separately). The pressed steel chassis is finished in white powder coat and houses a high-frequency electronic ballast that soft-starts the lamp, reducing the inrush stress on the tube filament and extending lamp service life beyond what's typical with magnetic ballasts.
Designed for commercial and institutional dry interiors, the batten fits corridors, warehouses, storage rooms, workshops, classroom ceilings, and back-of-house areas where consistent linear light is needed. The 1475mm length suits standard 5ft ceiling grid spacing and the 82.5mm projection from mounting surface keeps the fitting compact against the ceiling or wall. The white finish blends with typical ceiling tile and painted plaster.
The IP20 rating restricts the fitting to indoor dry locations with no exposure to moisture. The Class I earthing requires a protective earth connection during installation. The polycarbonate lamp cover clips into the steel body and can be removed for tube changes without tools. The batten mounts via knockouts on the rear plate, which accept M4 fixings direct to masonry, timber joists or ceiling grid frames.

Frequently Asked
What tube does this take?
The batten is designed for a single 49W T5 fluorescent tube, 1449mm nominal length. The tube is not included and must be purchased separately.
Can it be wall-mounted?
Yes. The rear mounting plate has knockouts suitable for ceiling or wall installation. For wall mounting, ensure the tube sits horizontally and the ballast end is supported.
Is it suitable for damp areas?
No. The IP20 rating restricts use to dry indoor locations only. For damp environments such as covered outdoor areas or plant rooms, an IP65-rated fitting is needed.
What does the high-frequency ballast do?
The electronic ballast operates at a higher frequency than traditional magnetic ballasts, which reduces flicker, eliminates the hum associated with older ballasts, and soft-starts the tube to reduce filament wear during switch-on.
