Description

The Knightsbridge T8BLED16HL is a 1790mm modular LED batten delivering 5600 lumens from an integrated 50W LED array at 4000K cool white. The pressed steel housing and opal polycarbonate diffuser run the full length of the fitting, giving an even wash of light along its 1.79m run with no visible hotspots or dark zones between individual LED modules.

Designed as a direct T8 fluorescent tube replacement in utility areas, back-of-house corridors, storage rooms, workshops and retail stockrooms, the batten is rated IP20 for dry indoor use only. The 4000K colour temperature provides neutral cool white light that suits task-focused environments where colour rendering accuracy is less critical than general visibility. The 107 lumens-per-watt efficacy reduces running costs compared to older fluorescent fittings of equivalent output.

The white powder-coated steel body measures 60mm wide by 85mm deep and weighs under 2kg, allowing it to be surface-mounted to ceilings or walls using the integrated keyhole fixing points at each end. The opal diffuser clips into the housing and can be removed for LED module access without disconnecting mains wiring. The fitting is non-dimmable and does not include emergency battery backup — it operates on standard 230V mains supply only.

Can this be used to replace a 4ft fluorescent tube fitting?

Yes. The batten is designed as a direct replacement for T8 fluorescent tube fittings of the same length. The existing fluorescent fitting is removed entirely and the LED batten is surface-mounted in its place using the keyhole fixing points. No additional control gear or ballast is needed — the LED driver is integrated into the housing.

Is it suitable for outdoor use or damp areas?

No. The IP20 rating means the batten is suitable for dry indoor locations only. It is not protected against moisture ingress and should not be used in bathrooms, outdoor canopies, garages subject to condensation, or any environment where water or high humidity is present.

How is the diffuser removed for maintenance?

The opal polycarbonate diffuser clips into the pressed steel housing and can be released by applying gentle pressure to the clip points along the length of the fitting. This allows access to the LED module for cleaning or inspection without disconnecting the mains supply.

What ceiling height does it suit?

The 5600lm output and 4000K colour temperature make this batten most effective at ceiling heights of 2.4-3.5m in utility and storage environments. Higher ceilings may require multiple battens spaced at intervals to achieve adequate light levels at floor level.
