Description
A tealight holder in heavy recycled glass, 11cm across and 6cm tall, so it sits low and wide rather than upright. The wall rises almost straight from a flat base, turns in sharply at a shoulder and runs up to a small round well in the top. The surface is mottled the whole way over: dark grey green across the shoulder, olive and ochre down the belly, with rust coloured speckling and fine pitting scattered through it.
The well takes a tealight and holds it down inside the glass, so the flame sits below the rim and the light comes up out of the opening. That suits a dining table, where nothing shines across at the people sitting round it, and a mantel or a shelf, where it reads as a solid object by day and a point of light after dark. A base 11cm across under a height of only 6cm keeps it low and steady.
The glass is recycled. While it is still hot, metallic elements are introduced that react with the surface, and that reaction is what raises the smoky finish and the shift of colour from grey green through olive to ochre. The reaction runs its own way on every piece, so the pattern and the balance of the colours differ from one holder to the next. The tealight is not included.

Frequently Asked
How big is it?
11cm across and 6cm tall.
What candle does it take?
A tealight. It drops into the well in the top so that the flame sits below the rim.
Is the glass recycled?
Yes. Metallic elements are worked into the surface while the glass is still hot, and that is what gives the smoky finish.
Will every holder look the same?
Not exactly. The reaction that colours the glass runs differently on every piece, so the pattern and the depth of the green vary from one to the next.
Can it be used outdoors?
No. It is for indoor use only.
How do I look after it?
Wipe it with a soft, dry cloth, and use a microfibre cloth in a circular motion on the glass. To take off wax, use warm water with a mild dish soap and dry it immediately rather than leaving it to soak. It gets hot in use, so position the candle securely, keep it out of reach of children, wait until it has cooled fully before handling it, and never leave a burning candle unattended.
