Description

Faux silk in a soft ivory pearl, made up as a plain cylinder with the same width top and bottom. A white laminate lining sits behind the fabric, so the light comes through clean rather than tinted, and the colour you see unlit is close to the colour you get once the lamp is lit. At 30cm across and 25cm deep it is a taller cylinder than the usual shallow drum, which gives a lamp base more presence and keeps the lamp holder well covered.

We reach for a shade like this in rooms that already have plenty going on: on bedside lamps, on a console lamp in a hallway, or over a dining table where you want the light on the table rather than washed across the ceiling. Ivory is the easy choice, warm enough to sit happily with cream walls and oak, quiet enough not to argue with a strong wallpaper or a busy rug. It works as well on a floor lamp as it does on a pendant.

The faux silk has a fine sheen to it, and the laminate behind gives the shade its body and its shape. Run a soft brush or a vacuum upholstery head on low suction over it now and then, and blot rather than rub if something marks the fabric, as the lining does not take kindly to water. It carries a one year warranty.
