Description

A bottle stopper 11.4cm long, with a shaped marble top and a tapered metal shank below it. The stone is polished to a gloss and its veining runs in clouded bands of grey, fawn and cream, so the top reads warmer in some pieces than others. Between the stone and the shank sits a ribbed black seal that grips the inside of a bottle neck, and the shank itself is aluminium finished in antique brass, etched by hand so it carries a fine texture rather than a shine.

The stone is 5.1cm across at its widest and the stopper is 11.4cm from the top of the marble to the end of the shank, so the marble stands well above the neck once the ribs are pushed in. That puts it on a dining table, a drinks trolley or a bar top rather than away in a drawer, standing in an opened wine bottle.

The top is marble and the shank is aluminium. The stone is sourced in Rajasthan and shaped and polished by hand, so the veining, the depth of the grey and the way the bands run are different on every stopper. The brass detailing on the shank is etched by hand as well, which is what gives the aged finish its texture.
