Description

Our Seva salad servers are a pair of mango wood servers in beige, each with a handle shaped like a fish. One has a deep, rounded bowl for scooping; the other has a slot cut through its bowl, so the two work together like a spoon and fork to lift and toss leaves. Each piece is 29cm long and 5cm wide, a length that reaches to the bottom of a deep salad bowl and keeps your fingers clear of the dressing. The handle runs from a slim stem through a small collar into the fish body, finishing in a forked tail.

These are made for the salad bowl first: green leaves, grain salads, slaws and anything with a dressing. Gather a portion between the two bowls and lift, and the slotted server lets excess dressing fall back as you serve. They work as well for roasted vegetables or a potato salad on a shared dish. The fish handles give them a light, playful character that suits a table laid for a seafood supper or a long summer lunch, and they sit happily beside plain white plates or patterned stoneware. Keep them in the kitchen for everyday meals, or bring them to the dining table when friends come over.

The mango wood has a lacquered finish, a sealed coat over the surface that leaves the grain on show along each handle. Mango wood has a lively grain, so the markings differ from one piece to the next. These servers do not go in the dishwasher, the microwave or the oven: wash them by hand in warm, soapy water and dry them straight away, since wood is best not left to soak. For styling, lay the pair crossed over the rim of a wide serving bowl, fish tails out, so they are ready to hand and become part of the table setting.
