Description

The Selyo is a cushion cover 60cm by 40cm, hand screen printed onto a heavyweight slubby cotton. The pattern is drawn from tapestry: a scrolling foliate ground in sage and olive green with cream and soft apricot figures worked through it, and a narrow patterned border running down the cover off-centre. The print sits unevenly on the weave, lighter where the slub stands up and denser where the cotton lies flat, so it reads worn rather than new.

60 by 40cm is a bolster shape rather than a square, which puts it along the front of a sofa seat or across the small of the back in a chair. On a cream or neutral sofa the green sits against the neutral rather than repeating it. It is sold as a cover, without an inner pad.

The cotton is heavyweight and slubby, chosen for the texture it puts under the print. Each cover is printed by hand, screen by screen, using traditional Indian techniques, so the registration shifts slightly and no two covers carry the pattern in quite the same place. The range also runs to the same cover in terracotta and rust.

Frequently Asked

What size is it?

60cm by 40cm.

Is an inner pad included?

No. This is the cover only.

How is the pattern made?

Hand screen printed onto heavyweight slubby cotton, using traditional Indian techniques.

Will every cover look the same?

Not exactly. The printing is done by hand, so small variations run through every cover.

How do I look after it?

Follow the care label on the cover. For a spill, lift the liquid with an absorbent tissue first, then blot the area with a sponge or a clean folded towel moistened in lukewarm water, and dry it with warm air from a hair dryer so it does not water mark. Larger or more stubborn stains should go to a professional. The cushion covers are tested for colourfastness.
