Sela 60 x 40cm Velvet Cushion Cover - Ochre

A rectangular cushion cover, 60 by 40cm, with a thick velvet front in a warm ochre and a flat flange border running round all four sides. The pile catches light unevenly across the face, so the tone shifts between honey and a deeper gold depending on where you stand. The reverse is natural linen.

A 60 by 40cm rectangle sits across the back of a sofa or a bed rather than square into a corner. On a sofa it takes the front of a group, in front of the 50 by 50cm square in the same ochre. At 0.5cm the cover is thin, so the shape it takes comes from whatever pad goes inside it.

The front is cotton velvet and the back is linen, woven on a traditional power loom and finished by hand. The Sela range runs to two sizes, this rectangle and a 50 by 50cm square, both in ochre. No pad is included.

What are the front and the back made from?

Is a pad included?

No. This is the cover on its own.

Can it be washed?

Follow the care label on the product. Many covers of this kind are washable, but some fabrics are spot clean only. Lift a spill with absorbent tissue first, then blot the area with a sponge or a folded towel moistened in lukewarm water, and dry it with warm air from a hair dryer so that it does not water mark. The fabrics are tested for colourfastness.

Why does the colour look different across the face?

That is the velvet pile. It lies in one direction and takes light differently as you move round it, so the same ochre reads lighter in places and deeper in others.
