Description

A square cushion cover, 50 by 50cm, with a thick velvet front in a warm ochre and a natural linen back. A flat flange border runs right round the outside, so the seamed edge sits in from the corners rather than on them. The velvet takes light unevenly across the face, so the same panel reads gold where the pile lies one way and closer to bronze where it lies the other.

At 50cm square it is the size that fills the back corner of a sofa or stands against the headboard of a bed, and a pair suits a three-seat sofa. The velvet front and the linen back give two surfaces in one colourway, so the cover can be turned to change how much light comes back off it. The same cover is made at 60 by 40cm in the same ochre.

The front is cotton velvet and the back is natural linen, woven on a power loom and made up by hand. Velvet takes dye deep into the pile and holds it at different depths across a panel, so no two covers sit at quite the same shade in the same light. This is a cover on its own; the inner is not included.
