A glass vase, 50cm tall, in green. This is a floor piece, not a table piece. It belongs in the space beside a chair or a fireplace, where a tall form fills height that furniture cannot. At 45cm wide it is a little narrower than a standard interior door. Height decides the position. A tall vase is a floor or a console piece and needs space around it; a low one belongs on a table where it is looked down into rather than across at.

A natural surface lightens or mellows slightly with sunlight over a few years. That is the material ageing rather than the finish failing, and most people prefer it at five years to how it looked at one. Glass borrows its colour from whatever sits behind it, so the same piece looks warmer against a painted wall than against a window. It shows dust sooner than an opaque finish, and cleans in seconds.
