Description

The Saxon is a 5-light wrought iron chandelier built around a medieval-style cartwheel frame with hammered metal panels separating each candle holder. The frame measures approximately 530mm across and suspends on three chains from a central ring, with each of the five arms supporting a turned candlestick-style E14 bulb holder. The entire fitting is finished in matt black.

Designed for high-ceilinged dining rooms, entrance halls and large living areas with ceiling heights of 2.7m or above, the Saxon works as both functional and decorative lighting. The five E14 candle bulbs (sold separately) provide ambient light distributed evenly around the wheel, while the hammered panel detail casts secondary shadows across the ceiling and upper walls when lit. The 420mm drop from the ceiling rose to the bottom of the frame allows the chandelier to sit centrally above a dining table or in the middle of a double-height hallway without dominating headroom.

The wrought iron construction combines traditional forging techniques for the turned candlestick elements with modern welding for the structural joins, giving the frame a total weight of approximately 4.5kg. The hammered texture on the vertical panels is hand-worked, so each panel shows slightly different indentation patterns. The matt black finish reduces reflectivity and integrates cleanly with both period and contemporary interiors that favour dark metals and exposed framework.

What bulbs does the Saxon take?

The chandelier takes five E14 small Edison screw candle bulbs, sold separately. Most users pair it with 4-6W warm-white LED candle bulbs at 2700K to mimic traditional candlelight. Maximum wattage per bulb depends on the bulb type—consult the bulb packaging or contact us before fitting high-wattage halogens.

What ceiling height is needed?

The 420mm drop from ceiling rose to the bottom of the frame suits rooms with ceiling heights of 2.7m or above. In lower-ceilinged rooms the chandelier may feel visually heavy. The suspension chains can be shortened during installation if needed.

Is the Saxon suitable for sloped ceilings?

The three-chain suspension naturally levels the chandelier frame on moderately sloped ceilings. Slopes greater than 15° may require a sloped ceiling adaptor (not included) to prevent the frame from hanging off-centre.

How is the wrought iron maintained?

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth or a soft-bristle brush for the hammered panels. The matt black finish does not require polishing. Avoid using wet cloths or chemical sprays, as wrought iron can rust if moisture penetrates the finish.
