Description

A five-pointed star built from clear glass panels held in a brass frame, 26.5cm tall, 28cm across and 7cm deep. The star is hollow, glazed on the front, the back and every edge, with the frame running as a fine line along each seam. A small brass platform sits at the centre of the star to hold a tealight, and a rounded brass handle arches over the two upper points. The brass is finished antique, mottled and darkened unevenly along the frame so it reads warm rather than bright.

It stands on its two lower points, and with a tealight burning inside it throws the line of the frame across the wall behind it. At 26.5cm it holds a mantelpiece, a sideboard or a window ledge on its own, and the same star is made one size up at 35cm if two are to stand together. The handle over the top is for carrying it, not for hanging it.

The panels are glass and the frame is brass, cut and soldered by hand, so the width of the seams and the depth of the antique finish are different on every star. Because the glass is clear on both faces, the whole frame stays visible through the body of the star from whichever side it is seen. A tealight is not included.
