Description

The Sangamo Astro Zone 3 is a 4-pin astronomical time switch with 24-hour programmable scheduling and two independent on/off operations per day. The switch adjusts switching times based on local sunrise and sunset, making it suited to outdoor lighting, security lighting, and heating controls where operation needs to follow natural daylight hours without manual seasonal adjustment.

Designed for installation in commercial, agricultural and residential electrical panels, the Astro Zone 3 fits a standard DIN rail mount and operates on 230V mains. The 20A current rating handles loads up to 4,600W, covering typical outdoor lighting circuits, underfloor heating zones, and signage. The 4-pin connector allows the programming dial to be removed once set, preventing accidental tampering in public or shared installations.

The switch carries a 100-hour battery reserve, maintaining the programmed schedule and clock through mains outages without losing settings. The clear dial face shows the current time, programmed on and off positions, and the astronomical offset zone (Zone 3 covers the UK and most of Western Europe). The switch calculates sunrise and sunset times internally based on the zone setting, shifting switching times across the year to match seasonal daylight variation.

Frequently Asked

What does Zone 3 mean?

Zone 3 is Sangamo's astronomical zone covering the UK, Ireland, and most of Western Europe. The switch automatically calculates sunrise and sunset times for this latitude band and adjusts switching times across the year to follow natural daylight hours.

How many switching operations can be programmed?

The Astro Zone 3 provides two on/off operations per 24-hour period. These can be set to fixed clock times or offset from calculated sunrise/sunset, depending on the application.

What happens during a power cut?

The 100-hour battery reserve maintains the programmed schedule and clock through mains outages. Once power is restored, the switch continues operating from the correct time without needing to be reset.

What is the 4-pin connector for?

The 4-pin connector allows the programming dial to be removed after initial setup, preventing accidental adjustment in installations where public access or tampering is a concern. The switch continues operating with the dial removed.
