Description
The Sangamo Astro Zone 1 is a programmable 24-hour time switch designed for automated lighting control in commercial and domestic installations. It carries a 20A rating and provides two independent on/off switching operations per 24-hour cycle, with sunrise and sunset adjustment based on Zone 1 geographical parameters (covering England, Wales and Northern Ireland).
Designed for DIN rail mounting in distribution boards and consumer units, the time switch automates exterior lighting, signage, car park lighting and security lighting where daily schedules need to follow daylight hours. The astro function adjusts switching times automatically throughout the year as sunrise and sunset times change, removing the need for manual reprogramming. The 3-pin connection supports both switched live and neutral control.
The time switch includes a 100-hour battery reserve that maintains programming and timekeeping during mains power interruptions, preventing schedule loss during short outages or maintenance work. The dial interface shows a 24-hour clock face with red markings for on/off operation windows, and the clear polycarbonate cover allows visual confirmation of current settings without needing to open the consumer unit door.
The unit measures 104mm high, 83mm wide and 134mm deep including terminals, fitting standard DIN rail profiles. The rated load of 20A at 230V AC handles up to 4,600W of connected lighting or equipment, suitable for controlling multiple exterior light circuits or large sign installations from a single timer. Sangamo is a UK manufacturer specialising in time control products for the electrical contracting sector.

Frequently Asked
What does the Astro Zone 1 setting mean?
Zone 1 covers England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The astro function uses this geographical zone to calculate sunrise and sunset times throughout the year, adjusting switching automatically without manual reprogramming as daylight hours change with the seasons.
How many switching operations can be programmed?
The Q551.14.11 model provides two independent on/off operations per 24-hour cycle. This allows lighting to be switched on at dusk and off at a set night-time hour, then on again before dawn and off at sunrise, or any other two-event daily pattern.
What happens during a power cut?
The 100-hour battery reserve maintains programming and timekeeping during mains power interruptions. The time switch will resume normal operation when power returns without needing to be reprogrammed, provided the outage lasts less than 100 hours.
What load can it control?
The 20A rating at 230V AC allows the time switch to control up to 4,600W of connected load. This is sufficient for multiple exterior light circuits, large sign installations or high-bay industrial lighting controlled from a single timer.
