Description

Three flat wire stars, each 12cm from point to point and 0.5cm deep, hung from a small ring at the top point on a dark green velvet ribbon. A heavier wire forms the five-pointed outline and finer wire is wound across it in rays running from a bound knot at the centre out to each tip, so a star reads as an open web rather than a solid shape. The antique brass finish sits brighter along the outline than in the winding behind it.

Open wirework shows whatever is behind it, so these want light behind them rather than a solid backing: a window, a bare branch, or the outer end of a tree branch with the lights set further in. Hung from a bare branch with light behind it, the fine winding inside each point catches the light as short bright lines. At 0.5cm deep a star is flat, so it shows its whole shape from the front and narrows to a line edge on.

The stars are wire throughout under an antique brass finish, shaped, joined and wound by hand and then sealed with a durable coating. Each ribbon is cut and knotted separately, so the three hang at slightly different lengths. Sangala also runs as a candle holder in the same antique brass.
