Description
The Sandal is a 120x114cm wall mirror built from multiple mirrored leaf shapes arranged in a cluster formation, each piece finished in gold leaf over a lacquered MDF backing. The leaves overlap at different depths, creating a three-dimensional relief that catches light from different angles and projects shadows onto the wall behind.
Designed for entryways, dining rooms and living spaces where wall area allows for a large decorative accent, the mirror adds reflected brightness to rooms with limited natural light while acting as a visual anchor on a feature wall. The 3cm overall depth and 20.8kg weight require secure wall fixings appropriate to the substrate — consult a qualified fitter if the wall is plasterboard over stud rather than solid masonry.
The gold leaf finish is applied by hand to each individual leaf section, so tonal variation and brushstroke direction differ across the piece. The leaves themselves are cut from mirror glass backed onto shaped MDF formers, which gives structural rigidity and allows the cluster to be assembled in a fixed pattern. The overall 120x114cm footprint fits standard UK stairwell and hallway widths without overwhelming narrower spaces.
The mirror pairs well with warm-toned interiors, brass and copper accents, and mid-century or maximalist styling. It also works in contemporary spaces where a gold accent is used sparingly against cooler greys and whites. The reflective surface is standard mirror glass — wipe with glass cleaner and a soft cloth, avoiding abrasive materials that would scratch the gold leaf edges.

Frequently Asked
What wall fixings are needed?
The mirror weighs 20.8kg and requires secure wall fixings rated for at least 25kg. On solid masonry walls, use wall plugs and screws appropriate to the substrate. On plasterboard over stud, fix into the studs directly or use heavy-duty plasterboard fixings rated for the weight. Professional fitting is recommended.
Does the gold leaf finish vary between pieces?
Yes. The gold leaf is applied by hand to each individual leaf section, so tonal variation, brushstroke direction and coverage differ across the piece. This is characteristic of hand-finished gold leaf work, not a defect.
Can it be hung in a bathroom?
The mirror is not rated for high-humidity environments. The MDF backing and gold leaf finish may deteriorate in bathrooms with poor ventilation or persistent steam exposure. It is designed for dry interior rooms only.
How is the mirror cleaned?
Wipe the mirrored surfaces with standard glass cleaner and a soft microfibre cloth. Avoid spraying directly onto the gold leaf edges — spray onto the cloth first, then wipe. Do not use abrasive materials or scouring pads that would scratch the gold finish.
