Description
Salacia is a set of four handpainted stoneware plates, each 18cm across and 1cm tall, covered edge to edge in a multicoloured abstract pattern of flowing, rounded shapes. Every shape is traced with a raised outline, so the design has a gentle relief that you can feel under a fingertip and that catches the light on the glossy surface. At 18cm these are side plates, the right size for toast, a slice of cake, a croissant or a small salad rather than a main meal.
Put them out for breakfast, afternoon tea or pudding, or pass them round with starters and nibbles when friends come for supper. Four plates cover a small household or a table for four, and the pattern brings plenty of colour to a plain cloth or a bare wooden table. They also sit happily beside a larger dinner plate as bread plates, or on a side table with a mug of coffee and a biscuit. Because the shapes run across the whole face, a plate still looks lively half covered by a pastry, and a stack of them on an open kitchen shelf makes a cheerful sight between meals.
The plates are 100% stoneware, a dense and hard-wearing ceramic, and the pattern is painted by hand. They go in the dishwasher and in the microwave, so warming a slice of pie or clearing up after a busy breakfast takes no extra thought. They are not for the oven, so keep the microwave for any warming. For an easy table, pair them with plain dinner plates and let the pattern carry the colour, or mix them with bowls in a single shade picked from the design.

Frequently Asked
What size are these plates?
Each plate is 18cm across and 1cm tall, a side plate size that suits toast, cake, pastries and small portions rather than a full dinner.
Can they go in the dishwasher and the microwave?
Yes, both. The maker states the plates can go in the dishwasher and in the microwave, which makes them easy for everyday breakfasts and warming up a slice of something.
Can I use them in the oven?
No. The maker states they are not for oven use, so warm food on them in the microwave instead and keep them out of a hot oven.
What are the plates made of?
They are 100% stoneware with a handpainted pattern of flowing shapes, each traced with a raised outline that gives the surface a gentle relief.
What is included?
You receive four plates, all in the same multicoloured pattern of flowing shapes. The styling props shown are not included.
