Sahhil Metal Tripod Floor Lamp Base - Antique Bronze

The Sahhil is a tripod floor lamp base in cast iron. Three flat tapering legs splay out from the foot of a single square section stem, which rises straight to a small dished collar and the lampholder above it. The whole surface is textured, hammered rather than smooth, and the finish is a dark antique bronze that reads close to black in a room and shows warmer only where the light catches an edge. It stands 137cm on a tripod 37cm across and 30cm deep.

A tripod puts three small points of contact on the floor instead of one disc, which is what lets it stand on an uneven board or a rug without rocking, and the open legs leave the floor visible underneath so the lamp takes less visual room than its 37cm suggests. At 137cm the lampholder is above seated eye level, so a shade hides the bulb from a chair. It takes one E27 bulb up to 60W, the flex runs 3.5m, and it is rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms.

The iron is cast and the texture is in the casting rather than applied afterwards, so it runs right across the legs and the stem. At 3.65kg the weight is low down in the legs. No shade and no bulb are included.

Does a shade come with it?

No, this is the base alone. A large drum suits the height, and the dark bronze will take a pale shade or a coloured one equally.

Will a tripod stand on a rug?

Better than a disc will. Three points settle into a pile independently, so it does not rock the way a flat foot can on an uneven surface.

Is it brass or bronze?

Bronze. The finish is a dark antique bronze, closer to black than to gold. Set beside brass fittings elsewhere in a room it will read as a different metal, not a near match.

How do I clean it?

Unplug it, then a soft dry cloth, worked into the hammered texture rather than across it. Keep abrasives and harsh chemicals off the finish.
