Description
The Saharsa is a super king bed frame in mango wood, 188.1cm wide, 213.7cm long and 102cm to the top of the headboard. The headboard is a run of handwoven cane panels set into a mango wood frame, and the footboard repeats them at a little under half the height, so the cane is read from both ends of the bed. The side rails are solid boards, the legs are square posts cut from the same timber, and the base is a run of slats laid across the frame. The wood is pale and open-grained, and the cane is a warmer honey against it.
The frame is made for a UK super king mattress, which is not included. At 188.1cm wide and 213.7cm long it wants a room that leaves a walking gap on three sides, and the 102cm headboard stands well clear of a standard pillow stack, so a picture above it needs a good deal of wall. The footboard is low enough to see over from the bed and high enough to hold a folded blanket. The cane panels are open weave, so the frame reads as lighter in a room than a solid headboard of the same size would. It takes up to 450kg and the frame itself weighs 72kg.
The wood is mango, cut only once the trees have stopped bearing fruit, and the panels are cane, woven by hand into each opening. Mango is a tropical timber and the cane is a natural fibre, so both move a little with the room they live in. The Saharsa bed frame is also made in double and king sizes.

Frequently Asked
What mattress does it take?
A UK super king. The mattress is not included.
How big is the frame?
188.1cm wide, 213.7cm long and 102cm to the top of the headboard.
Does it need a bed base?
No. The frame carries its own slats across the width.
What other sizes are there?
The Saharsa bed frame is also made as a double and a king.
How do I look after it?
Wash the mango wood in warm soapy water, then rinse and dry it straight away. Mango is a tropical timber, so in a centrally heated house it can dry out and crack or warp. Feeding it now and then with an edible oil such as olive or walnut, worked in with a soft cloth, will keep it nourished, though the oil sits on the surface rather than soaking in, so it has to be reapplied after washing. Be aware that oiling darkens the tone.
