Description

A double bed frame in mango wood with handwoven cane set into both the headboard and the footboard. It measures 143cm wide by 203.7cm long, and the headboard rises to 102cm from the floor. The cane is woven by hand rather than machine pressed, so the pattern across each panel carries the small irregularities of the work.

It takes a UK double mattress, which is not included. The frame is rated to a maximum weight of 375kg and weighs 65kg itself. At 143cm wide by 203.7cm long it needs a wall run of about a metre and a half with floor left on both sides to make the bed up, and the headboard standing at 102cm puts the cane panel above the pillows rather than behind them.

The frame is mango wood, which reaches a workshop only at the end of a fruit tree working life, and the two panels are cane. The cane is woven by hand, so the tension and the set of the weave differ across a panel and between one bed and the next, and because it is a natural fibre the tone varies as well. The Saharsa bed frame is also made in king and super king.

Those oils sit on the surface rather than soaking in, so they need reapplying after washing, and they may darken the tone.
