Description

The Ryewold three light pendant hangs handmade champagne glass shades from a brushed aged brass frame, 445mm across, on a drop that adjusts between 500mm and 1600mm. Champagne toned glass warms the light as it passes through, giving a softer, more golden cast than clear glass does. Because the shades are handmade, small variations in thickness and shape run from one to the next. Three E14 LED lamps at 7W each light it, and the fitting weighs 5.8kg.

445mm across with a long adjustable drop makes this a good fit above a round dining table, a kitchen island, a hall table or a stairwell. The warm glass suits rooms that already lean towards wood, wool and warmer paint colours, where cool clear glass can feel a little hard. Over an island the warm cast is worth testing against a cool worktop, since champagne glass leans golden where clear glass stays neutral. Three lamps cover a table well, and it is dimmable with compatible LED lamps and a dimmer switch. We would put it over a round table, where the three shades read evenly.

The frame and gallery are metal in brushed aged brass, matt rather than polished, which sits comfortably with the champagne glass rather than competing with it. Each shade lifts off for washing in warm water and should be dried fully before it is refitted; handmade glass deserves a careful hand and no abrasive cleaner.
