Description

The Rut is a modern linear wall light in matt black, made as one long straight bar 125cm tall, crossed in its upper third by a short horizontal bracket that holds it to the wall. Across that bracket it measures 30cm wide, and it stands 6.5cm out from the wall, so it keeps a slim profile in a hallway or beside a bed. The structure is iron and aluminium. Its light comes from an integrated LED, so there is no bulb to buy or change. It draws 10W and gives 900 lumens at 3000K, a warm white, with a colour rendering index of 90 or more, which keeps wood, fabric and skin tones looking true. The beam spreads across 120 degrees.

At 125cm tall it suits a long stretch of plain wall. We picture it either side of a bed in place of bedside lamps, beside a sofa in a living room, down a hallway, on a landing or in a dining room where a calm line of light suits better than a pendant. Its minimal shape sits comfortably in modern homes, and it works just as well in a hotel corridor or a restaurant. It is rated IP20, so it is for dry rooms only. It is switched on and off and is not dimmable, so it runs from an ordinary wall switch.

The iron and aluminium structure is finished in matt black, so when the light is off the fitting reads as a fine dark line against a pale wall. It runs on 220-240V mains, and as a mains fitting it is for a qualified electrician to install. It carries a 5 year guarantee. Our styling note: fix two side by side at staggered heights for a balanced pair, or let one stand alone on a plain painted or plaster wall where its long line has room to breathe.
