Description

A pair of dinner candles in white, each 20.5cm long and 2cm across, with a straight shaft that tapers to a short cone at the top. The surface is not smooth: it carries shallow pits and a faint grain from the mould, so the wax catches the light unevenly down the length. The wick is plain cotton and stands proud of the tip.

The 2cm shaft is cut for a candlestick with a tapered socket, and at 20.5cm the flame ends up well above the line of the table rather than in it. Two will light one end of a table or stand either side of a centrepiece, and a longer table wants more than one pair. The white is warm rather than bright, closer to the tone of linen than of paper.

The wax is a soy blend with paraffin, poured by hand into moulds in small batches, which is where the uneven surface comes from. The same candle is made in a charcoal, an olive and several other colours as well as this white. A candlestick is not included.
