The Rose is a slim cylinder downlight in matt white, recessed into a cut-out in the ceiling so that a neat 5cm trim sits at the ceiling line and the tube carries on below it. Its iron structure is finished in a smooth matt white that looks calm against a white or pale ceiling. The light comes from one GU10 lamp holder and points straight down from the open end of the cylinder. We sell it in three sizes, 16cm, 25cm and 40cm, and every one of them has the same 5cm trim, so all three meet the ceiling in exactly the same way.

We like it in a line along a hallway or landing, grouped over a dining table, or spaced through a living room to pick out a sideboard or shelves. In a bedroom, one either side of the bed gives a tidy downward light and keeps the bedside tables clear. The plain matt white and clean cylinder shape suit a modern scheme, and they sit just as comfortably in an older home with white ceilings, where a pale fitting keeps the eye on the room rather than on the light. It is rated IP20, so it is for dry rooms only, and it runs on 220-240V mains with switched on-off control, so it works from an ordinary wall switch rather than a dimmer.

Because it is a mains fitting set into the ceiling, it is for a qualified electrician to install.
