Description

Rita is a slim concrete pendant light with real presence. It is a tall cylinder of porous concrete with a flat matt black disc near its foot and a short iron head beneath in matt polished brass. The concrete has a deep charcoal tone with small pits and pores across its surface, a raw counterpoint to the smooth metal. The pendant is 41cm tall and hangs on 1.5m of textile cable from an 8cm canopy. It takes one GU10 lamp, a widely used cap with plenty of choice in brightness and colour of light.

Rated IP20, Rita is for dry rooms indoors, and its slim profile suits places where a wide shade would crowd the space. Hang it beside the bed in place of a bedside lamp to free the table top, over a desk or reading chair, or at the end of a hallway. Its modern, industrial look sits well in a loft-style living room, a minimal flat or a dining room with plenty of concrete, timber and black metal.

The structure is made from porous concrete, the head is iron and the cable is textile, so every part is a solid, honest material. It runs on 220 to 240V mains and is switched on and off rather than dimmed. Like any mains fitting, it is for a qualified electrician to install. It carries a 3 year guarantee. For styling, we like Rita hung in a line of two or three over a dining table, each at its own height so the concrete cylinders step down across the room. It also works alone over a side table in a reading corner, where the brass catches the light.
