The Rio Wall Light is a modern wall light in matt black, made from iron. A rounded dome shade hangs from a short arm that runs out from a round wall plate, giving a simple, clean outline against the wall. It comes in three sizes, each named for the width of its shade. The 9cm size is 12cm tall and reaches 12.5cm out from the wall, with a shade 9.5cm tall and 9cm across. The 12cm size is 16cm tall and reaches 15cm out, with a shade 11cm tall and 12cm across. The 16cm size is 20cm tall and reaches 17cm out, with a shade 15cm tall and 16cm across.

The dome opens at the base, so the Rio sends its light downwards, onto the wall and whatever sits beneath it. That makes it a natural choice for hallways, landings and corridors, or as a pair either side of a bed. The 9cm size suits a narrow passage or a small bedroom, where a light that keeps close to the wall leaves the way clear. The 16cm size has a fuller presence on a living room or dining room wall, and the 12cm size sits comfortably between the two. It is made for indoor use.

The structure is iron, finished in matt black, so the shade, arm and wall plate all share one even colour with no shine. That plain, dark finish works against white or pale painted walls, where the dome shape reads clearly, and it sits just as well on a deep coloured wall for a quieter look. As a styling note, we like a matching pair at the same height either side of a mirror or a console table, or a row of three spaced evenly along a hallway so the shades line up.
