Description
This is the Rio 9 linear chandelier: five small dome shades set in a row beneath a straight iron rail, finished in green. It is 120cm long and 9.5cm tall, and each shade is 9cm across, so the fitting reads as a slim, light line rather than a heavy centrepiece. The rail hangs on two fine suspension wires, and power comes down a 2m textile cable from a ceiling canopy 8cm across. It takes five GX53 lamps and runs on 220-240V mains, switching simply on and off.
We think it is at its best over a dining table, where five evenly spaced points of light run along the table and keep the view across it clear. A long sideboard, a home office desk or a reception counter suits it just as well, and the run of shades works in a hallway or an open-plan living space where a single pendant would look lost. The green finish and plain dome shapes sit comfortably in modern and Scandinavian-style rooms. It is rated IP20, so it is for dry rooms only, and as a mains fitting it is for a qualified electrician to install.
The structure is iron, with a textile cable, and the green finish runs along the rail and over each shade, so the whole fitting reads as one colour. The shades open downwards, putting the light on the table or desk beneath rather than up into the ceiling. With GX53 lamp holders, you can choose the GX53 lamps that suit the room. It carries a 3 year guarantee. For styling, hang it centred along the length of your table and pair it with pale wood, linen and white or soft grey walls to let the green show.
