The Rio 9 is a modern ceiling light with a neat, graphic outline. Three green dome shades sit in a row beneath a long, slim backplate with rounded ends, and the whole fitting is set flush to the ceiling with no stem. The structure is iron, finished in green throughout, so the plate and shades read as one calm block of colour. It measures 10cm tall and 38cm wide, with a 30cm canopy, and each shade is 9cm across and 8cm tall. The shades open downwards and send light down into the room beneath. The fitting takes the GX53 lamp cap.

At only 10cm tall it gives up very little headroom. That makes it a sensible choice for lower ceilings, landings, hallways and loft rooms where a pendant would crowd the space. The 38cm width suits a dining table, a desk or the space above a bed, and the row of shades also lines up neatly along a narrow corridor. It is rated IP20, so it is for dry rooms only: living rooms, bedrooms, studies, hallways and dining rooms. The green finish works as a soft accent against white or warm neutral walls. It sits comfortably alongside oak, rattan and natural linen in a modern scheme.
