The Rio is a slim red floor lamp: a rounded dome shade on a thin, straight stem, standing on a flat round base. It is 120cm tall, with a shade 15cm tall and 16cm across and a base 20cm across, so it takes up very little floor space. Its structure is iron, finished in red, and it runs on a 2m plastic cable. Inside the dome are two G9 lamp holders, so it takes two G9 lamps, and it switches simply on and off, so there is no dimmer to match.

At 120cm tall, its shade sits close to someone settled in an armchair, on a sofa or propped up in bed, which makes it a natural reading lamp rather than one that lights a room from high above. It suits living rooms, bedrooms, studies and quiet corners, and a hallway or landing with a socket nearby. It is rated IP20, so it is for dry rooms only. The look is modern, with a Scandinavian plainness to the round base and simple dome, and the red brings a cheerful spot of colour to a neutral scheme.

The base, stem and shade all share the same red, so the lamp reads as one clean line from floor to shade, with the 2m cable leaving from the base towards the nearest socket.
