Description

The Rillmere is a tiered nine light pendant, its white and clear glass shades set on two levels so the light lands at more than one height. The frame measures 635mm across and hangs between 680mm and 2125mm, set at installation. Nine E14 LED lamps at 6W each give it real output for a large room while keeping the running cost modest. At 14kg it is a substantial ceiling light, so it wants a solid fixing point rather than plasterboard alone.

Its scale suits a stairwell, a double height hall or a wide dining room, and the tiered shape reads well when you can see it from more than one floor. Nine lamps at low wattage make it capable as the main light in a room that gets heavy use, and it is dimmable with compatible LED lamps and a dimmer switch, so the same pendant can go from bright to a low evening glow. It works as happily in a house with period bones as in a plainer modern one. We rate it most in a stairwell, where both tiers can be seen from above and below.

The frame is metal and the shades are glass in white and clear, arranged so each one stays reachable for cleaning. Wipe the glass with a barely damp cloth and dry it, and use a dry cloth alone on the metal; sprays and cream cleaners dull both over time. Because of the weight and the drop, ask a qualified electrician to hang it and to check the ceiling fixing first. Left against white plaster or centred over a long table, the Rillmere does the decorative work in a room on its own.
