The René floor lamp is a slim line of light in matt black, and it comes in two sizes, 120cm and 160cm. A thin aluminium bar holds an integrated LED, so there is no bulb to fit or change. The bar is held upright on a fine cable that runs from a small point on the ceiling down to a cylindrical iron base on the floor. The 120cm size draws 12W and gives 1000 lumens. The 160cm size draws 16W and gives 1300 lumens. Both give a warm white 3000K light with a colour rendering index of 90 or more, so colours look natural, in a broad 120 degree beam. In both sizes the base is 10cm tall and 8cm across.

It is rated IP20, so it is for dry rooms indoors: a living room corner, beside a sofa or armchair, the end of a bedroom, or a hallway where floor space is tight. Because the lamp is little more than a line, it takes up almost no room. That suits modern and minimalist interiors where a bulky shade would crowd the space. The 160cm size makes a longer line of light for a larger wall, while the 120cm size suits a smaller room. It switches on and off and is not dimmable, so for softer light in the evening it works well alongside a table lamp.

The base is iron, giving the weight that anchors the cable, while the structure is aluminium and the cable is plastic, all in the same matt black finish. It runs on 220-240V, has a 1.5m cable from the base to reach a socket, and carries a 5 year guarantee.
