Description

The Reiko is a dome ceiling light that pairs a blue aluminium shade with a base of natural ash wood. It fixes flush to the ceiling, with no stem, so the rounded shade sits close overhead and the light falls from its open rim. It measures 16cm tall and 21cm across, and the ash base is 11.5cm across, a compact size that suits a smaller room without crowding it. Inside is one E27 lamp holder, the common large screw cap, so a suitable lamp is easy to find. It is an on-off fitting, worked from an ordinary wall switch rather than a dimmer.

Because it sits so close to the ceiling, it suits rooms where headroom matters: a hallway, a landing, a box room or a bedroom with a lower ceiling, where a hanging pendant would be in the way. The blue gives a clear note of colour to a study, a child's bedroom or a reading corner, while the pale ash keeps the look light, modern and Scandinavian. It works as a single light in a small room or repeated along a corridor for an even line of light. It is rated IP20, so it is for dry rooms only, and it is an indoor fitting, not one for outside.

The construction is straightforward: an aluminium dome in a blue finish, fixed to a base of natural ash wood, so each base carries its own grain. As a mains fitting running at 220-240V, it is for a qualified electrician to install, and it carries a 3 year guarantee. For styling, we like to pick up the ash with other light woods in the room, such as oak shelves, a pale wooden bed frame or a cane chair, and to set the blue against white, cream or soft grey walls, where it reads at its clearest and brings the ceiling into the scheme.
