Description

The Rarni is a small task lamp with a ribbed glass shade on a curved brass stem. A flat round base carries a slim stem that rises and bends over at the top, and a knuckle joint closed by two knurled screws holds the shade tipped downward. The shade is clear glass, ribbed from the collar to an open rim and shaped as a deep dome. The brass is aged and slightly mottled, and the flex is rust coloured braid with a switch set inline on the cord.

The shade points down and the stem carries it forward of the base, which is what makes this a reading light rather than an ambient one: the light lands on what is in front of the lamp instead of filling the room. The glass is clear rather than opaque, so the bulb is visible and its shape is part of what is seen, and the ribs break the spill into vertical bands on a nearby wall. It stands 50cm tall and reaches 37.9cm forward. It takes one E14 bulb up to 40W, the flex runs 2.5m, and it is rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms.

The glass is recycled and moulded in a ribbed form, so the depth of the ribbing and the small bubbles held in it differ between lamps, and the base and stem are brass. The Rarni range also holds a single and a double wall light using the same ribbed glass. Bulbs are not included.

Frequently Asked

Is it bright enough to read by?

At 40W aimed down from 50cm, yes, over the area directly in front of it. It is a task lamp rather than a light for a whole room.

Where is the switch?

Set into the flex partway along the cord, so it is worked at the cable rather than reached for behind the shade.

Will the ribbing show on the wall?

Yes. Clear ribbed glass breaks the light into vertical bands, which read on a wall close by and are part of what the shade is doing.

How do I clean it?

Unplug it and let the glass cool, then a soft dry cloth. Nothing abrasive on the brass.
