Description

The Rania is a wall light with a long black iron arm that swings out from the wall and holds a single cylindrical fabric shade on a textile cable. The arm reaches out from an upright fixed to the wall, then drops the shade on its cable, so the light hangs like a pendant while the fitting itself stays on the wall. The cylinder shade is a white cream fabric, 50cm tall and 38cm across, set against the black of the arm. Inside is one E27 lamp holder, and the fabric spreads its light into a soft, even glow through the sides of the shade.

Because the arm swings out, you can bring the shade to where the light is wanted: beside a bed, over a reading chair or a side table, or out into the corner of a living room. It suits a bedroom where the bedside tables leave little room for a table lamp, and a study or hallway that wants softer light at a lower level than a ceiling fitting gives. The pale fabric and slim black lines sit comfortably in modern and Scandinavian rooms, alongside white or light painted walls, pale timber and linen. It is rated IP20, so it is for dry rooms only.

The structure is iron in a black finish, the shade is fabric and the cable is textile, so the drop from the end of the arm looks like part of the design rather than a plain flex. It is an on-off switched fitting for 220 to 240V mains, so there is no dimmer to match, and it carries a 3 year guarantee. For styling, we like it fixed so the base of the shade sits a little above eye level when you are seated beside it, and a pair either side of a bed for a balanced look.
