Description

Rania is a modern cylinder wall light: a cylindrical fabric shade in white cream set on a round black base, with a single E27 lamp holder inside. Two fine lines cross the shade, one running top to bottom and one around its middle, so its face reads as four quiet panels, and when the light is on the fabric glows softly with those lines drawn through it. It comes in two sizes, 18cm and 28cm. The 18cm size has an 18cm shade, stands 25cm tall and projects 22cm from the wall, a neat depth for a hallway or landing where passing room matters.

We think it suits living rooms, bedrooms, hallways and landings, anywhere a soft, shaded glow at wall height is wanted. Fitted in a pair, one either side, it frames a bed, a sofa or a fireplace with a calm symmetry, and the black base gives the pale shade a crisp outline against a light wall. It is a modern design with nothing fussy about it, so it sits easily beside plain furniture. It is rated IP20, so it is for dry rooms only. Its control is on-off, worked from a switch, and the lamp holder takes an E27 cap, the common large screw fitting.

The structure is iron, with the base finished in black, and the shade is fabric, a straightforward pairing that keeps the fitting light in look and simple to live with. As a mains wall light it is for a qualified electrician to install. It carries a 3 year guarantee. For styling, hang a pair at the same height either side of a bed or a doorway, or set one beside a reading chair, and let the cylindrical shade bring a soft column of light to a plain wall.
