Description

The Ramvas is a lamp base cast as a flat disc standing on edge, 31.5cm across and only 9cm deep. The whole face is cut with fine lines running out from a point near the centre, so the surface reads as a fan of rays from any angle. The rim is not quite true and the metal is rough rather than polished. A slim rod rises from the top of the disc to a brass collar and a black lampholder, which brings it to 39cm overall.

This is a base only: no shade and no bulb. At 31.5cm across and 9cm deep it is wide and thin, so it needs a surface with width rather than depth: a sideboard, a console, the back of a shelf. It takes one E27 bulb up to 40W, the cord runs 2m, and it is rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms.

The base is sand cast aluminium: a mould is made in sand, molten metal is poured in and the casting is taken out once it cools, then an antique brass finish goes on. Sand casting comes out irregular, which is where the rough surface and the uneven rim come from, and no two discs are quite the same. Neither a shade nor a bulb is included.

Frequently Asked

Does it come with a shade?

No. It is the base only, with a brass collar and a black lampholder on top. Supplied without a shade.

Is it solid brass?

No. It is sand cast aluminium with an antique brass finish over it.

Why is the surface rough?

The mould is made in sand, so the casting comes out irregular and carries the texture of it. The rim is not quite true either, and that is the same cause.

What bulb does it take?

One E27, up to 40W. No bulb is included.

How do I clean it?

Take any shade off and unplug it, then wipe it with a soft dry microfibre cloth. Keep harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners off the finish.
