Description

The seven light Quilbrook cascade in antique brass hangs clear glass globes at stepped heights below a 480mm round plate. It is the middle size in the cascade design, with enough drop to read as a falling line but short enough for a house rather than an atrium. The suspension adjusts from 1910mm to 2310mm, and seven E27 lamp holders take 10W LED bulbs. The pendant is dimmable, so it works as a bright main light and then as a low background glow. Warm brass against clear glass gives a softer, older feeling than the same shape in a cool metal.

We would hang it over a stair turn, in a hallway with a landing above, or above a round or square dining table where the stepped globes fill the space better than one shade would. Roughly two metres of drop needs a good ceiling height, so measure to the lowest point anyone will pass under. Over a table, the bottom globe wants to sit clear of eye level across the surface. It suits rooms already using brass ironmongery, warm timber or dark green and clay paint colours.

The metalwork is finished in antique brass, lightly aged so it looks settled rather than bright, and small marks blend in instead of standing out. The glass is clear, so bulbs are visible and worth choosing with care, and a warm filament LED reads best. For cleaning, isolate the light and let the bulbs cool, then dust the glass with a dry microfibre cloth and wipe the brass with the same cloth barely damp, avoiding sprays and abrasives. It weighs 6.1kg, so use a fixing rated for the load. A thirteen light Quilbrook cascade covers taller voids in the same finish.
