Description

The Pyleford pendant is a narrow hammered brass shade on an adjustable suspension, measuring 195mm across the shade with an overall height that runs from 450mm to 1525mm. That is a wide range of adjustment, so the same ceiling light can hang low over a counter or high in a hallway. One E27 lampholder takes a 10W LED bulb, and the pendant is dimmable when paired with dimmable bulbs and a matched dimmer switch. The metal shade directs light downwards instead of glowing all over, which makes it a good task light. It weighs 2.0kg and is a Class 1 fitting, so it needs an earthed supply.

A 195mm shade is small enough to hang in a row, and we would put three or four of these above a kitchen island or a breakfast bar with even gaps between them. Singly it works over a side table, in a small hallway, or above a stairwell landing. Because the light is directed, it puts a clear pool on the surface below rather than filling the room, so pair it with other lighting if the room has no other source. The hammered brass keeps the look warm and handworked rather than industrial.

The shade, suspension and ceiling plate are metal in a hammered brass finish, with dimples that break up reflections and hide the small marks that plain brass shows. Dust with a dry soft cloth and lift any marks with a barely damp cloth, drying straight away and keeping sprays and creams away from the brass. It is rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms, and being Class 1 it must be earthed at the ceiling. There is a matching Pyleford wall light and a wider hammered disc pendant in the same range if you want the finish carried across a room.
