Prism Outdoor Wall Light - Brown IP44

The Prism is a 165mm outdoor wall light with a brown powder-coated die-cast aluminium body and dual transparent Pyrex glass diffusers at the upper and lower apertures. The single G9 bulb (sold separately) casts light both upwards and downwards through the satin-finish glass, providing balanced illumination across the wall surface and immediate surroundings. The IP44 rating protects against splashing water from any direction, making it suitable for covered external positions.

Designed for exterior walls on porches, under eaves, beside external doors, and on garden walls where some overhead protection exists, the Prism provides task lighting for door access and ambient wash lighting for the wall surface. The 65mm projection from the wall keeps the fitting compact, while the aluminium construction tolerates exposure to coastal salt air and urban pollution better than steel or plastic alternatives. The die-cast body dissipates heat from the G9 bulb without plastic degradation over time.

The brown powder-coat finish has a warm earthy tone that pairs with terracotta, brick, timber cladding and warm-painted render. The satin Pyrex diffusers soften the direct glare from the G9 bulb while maintaining enough transparency to show the light source clearly when switched on. The dual-diffuser configuration means the fitting creates a vertical column of light on the wall rather than a single downward cone, making it useful for illuminating building numbers, porch steps, or doorbell positions.

What does IP44 mean for outdoor use?

IP44 provides protection against splashing water from any direction, meaning the fitting can be used in covered external positions such as under eaves, porches, or canopies. It is not rated for direct rain exposure or open wall positions without overhead protection.

What bulb does it take?

The Prism takes a single G9 capsule bulb, sold separately. Most users pair this with a 2W-4W LED G9 bulb in 2700K-3000K for warm-white exterior lighting. The fitting is dimmable provided a dimmable bulb and compatible dimmer are used.

Is the light directed upwards or downwards?

Both. The dual diffusers at the top and bottom of the fitting cast light upwards onto the wall above and downwards onto the ground below, creating a vertical column of illumination. This makes the Prism useful for lighting doorways, building numbers, or porch steps.

Can it be used on a coastal property?

The die-cast aluminium body with powder-coat finish tolerates coastal salt air better than steel or plastic fittings. However, periodic rinsing with fresh water will extend the finish life in high-salt environments.
