Description

The JQ 30 Black (article ALER JQ-30-B/B) is a passive infrared (PIR) motion sensor that switches connected lighting on when it detects movement within range. It runs from a standard 220-240V AC mains supply and is built from durable plastic in a black finish to sit discreetly against darker walls and surfaces. As a PIR detector it responds to the heat and movement of people passing through its field of view, making it a practical control for entrances, hallways, stairwells and outbuildings.

Rated IP44, it copes with splashes and damp from sheltered positions such as a covered porch, garage or utility area, though it is not intended for fully exposed sites exposed to direct water jets. It wires in line with the luminaire it controls, so check the maximum load and detection requirements suit your fitting before installation. We also stock a wider selection of motion and daylight sensors to match different detection ranges and mounting needs.

Frequently Asked

What is the detection range and angle?

As a passive infrared sensor it detects the movement of people across its field of view, typically over a wide horizontal arc within a few metres. Position it so the area you want covered falls across its line of sight rather than directly towards it for the most reliable triggering.

What is the maximum load it can switch?

The sensor switches connected lighting in line with the circuit, so always check the rated load against the total wattage of the fittings you are controlling. Staying within the stated maximum protects both the sensor and the connected luminaires.

Can the time and light level be adjusted?

PIR sensors of this kind commonly allow the hold-on time and daylight (lux) threshold to be set so the light stays on for a chosen period and only activates in low light. Refer to the supplied instructions to fine-tune these settings for your location.

Can it be used outdoors?

It is rated IP44, so it is suitable for sheltered and damp positions such as a covered porch or garage entrance. Keep it clear of fully exposed locations subject to direct rain or water jets, where a higher IP rating would be needed.
