Description

A set of four hanging eggs made from recycled cotton paper, each 7.5cm high and 5cm across. Every egg is built as a honeycomb: sheets of paper are layered and pasted in a set pattern, then pulled open so the honeycomb cells expand and the flat pad becomes a rounded, three-dimensional form. Each egg opens along the seam where its two halves meet, and small magnets hold it shut.

At 7.5cm these are small enough to hang several together on a bare branch, and the paper is light enough that a thin twig will carry them without bending. They can be hung from a wall as well as from a branch. Four to a set covers a small branch or the length of a table, and because the honeycomb opens out, each egg reads as a rounded form rather than a flat cut-out.

The paper is recycled cotton paper throughout. Each honeycomb is printed or coated first to give the paper strength and an even surface, then layered and pasted, expanded, pressed into shape and die-cut before the two halves are trimmed and matched. The paper is fragile, and small magnets hold each egg closed. A mini size is made, twelve to a set.
