Description

A set of four paper eggs in cream, each 7.5cm high and 5cm across, hanging from a fine cotton thread. The paper is folded into thin leaves that radiate out all round the egg, so the surface reads as a run of close vertical pleats, deepest around the middle and closing in at both ends. Each egg opens out from flat, and small magnets hold the two halves together once it is shut.

The eggs are light enough for a bare branch to carry several without bending, and the thread is long enough to loop over a twig or to drop them at different heights from the same branch. They can be hung from a wall as well. The cream is a soft off-white rather than a bright one.

The paper is recycled cotton paper. It is printed or coated first to give it strength and an even surface, then layered and pasted in a set pattern to build the honeycomb, expanded, pressed into shape and die-cut before the halves are trimmed and matched. The paper is fragile and the eggs are held closed by small magnets. The same egg is made in a moss green, and a mini size is made twelve to a set.
