Description

This stoneware ornament is a single ribbon of clay that curls back on itself, so one end rises to a tall, slanting peak while the other wraps round into a low, open hollow. The fold between them leaves pockets of different depths, all open at the top. It measures 22cm long, 12cm wide and 15cm tall, a size that settles on a shelf or a desk without crowding it, and at 0.888KG it has real heft. The whole piece is glazed in brown, glossy in places and finely speckled in others, with runs of glaze trailing down the sides.

Because those hollows are open, it works as a holder as well as an ornament. On a desk it keeps pens, pencils and scissors together; on a bookshelf or a sideboard it holds a brush or a few small tools within easy reach, and it looks just as settled with nothing in it. The low curl suits short things and the taller section longer ones.
